The Springfield Civic Garden Club awarded grant for EG to install 48 raised beds in our Gardens of Generosity. Our Gardens of Generosity project currently has multiple garden plots on the 18 acres a 300ft x100ft divided into 50x50 plots, and many other food sites scattered throughout the property. We are seeking funding and support for deer protection of crops to increase our harvest yields. We are also seeking funding for a tractor to increase productivity and garden maintenance.
A tractor will provide our gardens with the support to grow and expand our many initiatives. a tractor will allow more to be accomplished with less volunteer manual labor necessary to complete projects, such as the 30 -80 dump truck loads of mulch woodchips we get annually to cover the garden walkways and around plants for weed control. this take is currently done by our board members and founder with pitchforks and wheelbarrows or hand load a pickup truck and manually unload. this is quiet time consuming but is a VITAL part of the garden upkeep without the mulch a key component to the success of the garden with limited volunteers it reduces the weeding time and task. a tractor to move mulch throughout the garden spaces would enhance not only garden appeal but it would save great efforts on manual labor of our board and volunteers. the tractor would also help aid in large project installations as well as leveling and moving soil the tractor would also be used for the program FOR THE LOVE OF DIRT by turning over and moving compost and food waste at large scale operational goals The tractor would also prep land and soil for new gardens and be used to mow and maintain the grounds around the gardens reducing grass weed seed on the property. the tractor would also be use to install the Memory Gardens Orchard trees and many other large items in structures and materials. we appreciate the support of funding, sponsoring, grants that will allow us the opportunity to do so much more for our community with limited volunteers at this beginning stage of our growth.
